The Hungarian incumbent Magyar Telekom is to stop selling new cable services from the beginning of September.
According to HWSW, existing cable subscribers will be able to access their service for the foreseeable future, while new customers will only be able to chose from IPTV and hybrid DTH services.
Magyar Telekom launched an IPTV platform, employing MPEG-4 compression, in 2006 and two years later added a DTH platform.
More recently, in 2011, it introduced interactive services. During this time, the number of cable customers, in a total TV subscriber base that currently stands at over 900,000, has been gradually falling.
Separately, Magyar Telekom has announced that it will add a further 18 TV channels to its multiscreen service TV GO in August.
TV GO currently consists of 16 channels.
It forms part of the Telekom TV Basic package, with viewers also being offered an additional six channels.
