Al Jazeera has received a licence from the Swedish Broadcasting Authority and launched to Swedish viewers through the DTT platform Boxer.
The duration of the licence lasts until March 31, 2020. The channel has now a potential reach of 600,000 DTT homes in Sweden.
“The granting of this licence by the Swedish Broadcasting Authority is an endorsement of the real appetite in Sweden for international news and storytelling,” commented Ehab Sahawneh, executive director of marketing and distribution at Al Jazeera.
“We know from the number of people visiting our website from Sweden, that it is a fertile ground for global news. The country’s global outlook and attitude toward diversity makes it a perfect fit for Al Jazeera’s range of award-winning news and programmes coverage’.
