Poland’s National Broadcasting Council (KRRiT) plans to closely monitor developments in hybrid TV, both domestically and elsewhere in Europe, in order to guide it towards eventually regulating the sector.
In a policy statement for 2014-16, it adds that future regulation would take into account such factors as the protection of viewers; areas related to new forms of advertising; an analysis of the competences of the KRRiT and Office of Electronic Communication (UKE), taking into account convergence; pluralism and competition in viewership and share of the ad market in various media services; and modernisation of funds supporting cinematography and the audiovisual industry in the financing of online services.
The policy statement also discusses such areas as the development of further multiplexes (MUX 5, MUX 6 and MUX 8), along with the replacement of the receiver licence fee with an audiovisual payment to fund public broadcasting in Poland.
