Despite being an advanced TV market, the UK is falling behind continental countries such as France and Germany in the introduction of 4K services.
Richard Lindsay-Davies, DG, Digital TV Group, said that the reason for this was partly the fact that the UK went through a huge replacement cycle with the transition to digital broadcasting and the market is still suffering.
Furthermore, the rollout of 4K is easier in continental Europe as the technical requirements are lower than in the UK.
Lindsay-Davies said it was very important for a clear story on Ultra HD to emerge in the next couple of years.
