A former car park has become the home to the BBC’s satellite uplink facility, bringing an end to 23 years of satellite operations at BBC Television Centre.
The closure of the iconic building, which had been home to many of the BBC’s flagship shows, has resulted in a new facility outside of the M25 area. The company behind the move is Atos, the French IT firm that purchased Siemens IT services business, which had itself acquired the former BBC Technology business.
Eight new satellite dishes were installed by the time the facility was completed in February. The first services, providing television and radio services to Sky and Freesat at 28 degrees East were migrated in February.
In the last few days European Broadcasting Union services have also been migrated.
