The pay-TV market in Spain continues to shrink, with the number of homes receiving services in the second quarter amounting to 3,771,617.
This, according to the latest data published by the regulator CMT, was the lowest total since 2007.
D.T.S. Distribuidora de TV digital (Canal+), the leading provider of pay services, ended Q2 with 1,646,172 subscribers, compared to 1,744,885 a year earlier.
Second place Ono’s total of 829,999 total meanwhile contrasted with that of 906,475 a year earlier.
The same applied to third placed Telefónica (630,324 v 789,009) and all the other providers, which in descending order were Gol TV, TeleCable, Euskatel, R and Orange.
Revenues from pay-TV services are more volatile. They amounted to €425.82 million in Q2, down from €440.77 million three month earlier but higher than the €419.53 million posted in the corresponding period last year.
D.T.S. Distribuidora de TV digital claimed the highest total (€292.41 million million), followed by Telefónica (€56.37 million).
