IBC 2013 – AMSTERDAM. As the debate over the future of the set-top box rippled across IBC, Pace has been showing what the future of the market might look light.
The grey unit, pictured right, plugs directly into the power supply and could arguably used as a companion to the server-based products that Pace has been supplying to operator’s such as Norway’s Get.
Alongside this is the desire to have constant branding be it on a tablet or first screen. Darren Fawcett, Chief Technical Engineer at Pace, told Broadband TV News it was important to have the same look and feel across all devices.
Newbury-based TW Electronics has been working with Pace to produce a low cost (£5) remote that allows for speech recognition. “Speech has got to be as seamless as possible, though we realise people will still use the channel up and down,” said Fawcett.
The remote capitalises on technology from Nuance, the company behind Apple’s Siri.
