Travel Channel is reported to have made a formal application to renew broadcasting in Russia.
According to TelecomDaily and AKTR, it received two licences from Rozomnadzor – one for HD and one for SD transmissions – last month and is now, with support from its Russian representative Media Broadcasting Group, in talks with operators about resuming cooperation.
Quoting Jonathan Sichel, MD Scripps Networks Interactive EMEA, they add that in returning to Russia Travel Channel will look to create programmes dedicated to local content close and familiar to the Russian audience.
Travel Channel published a letter in March saying that the reasons for terminating broadcasting in Russia were independent of the TV channel itself.
It also said that it would soon start the procedure for obtaining the necessary licences and would aim to resume broadcasting on the DTH platforms Orion Express and NTV-Plus.
