A member of Romania’s National Audiovisual Council (CNA) has called for the partial elimination of must-carry for cable operators.
Quoted by Mediafax, Valentin Jucan said that given market changes and digitisation must-carry should be limited to the public broadcaster TVR and public regional and local TV services.
Asked whether or not taking stations out of must-carry would result in an increase in subscription fees, Jucan said that he did not think it would happen.
Data produced by the regulator Ancom shows that the total number of cable subscribers in Romania grew by 6.4% to 3.8 million in 2012.
Of these, 1.24 million, or around 33% of the total, received digital services.
