People who have a smart TV which is connected are increasingly using the apps on their set.
During 2012, some 72% used their smart tv more than 25 times a month, according to research by TPVision, the company licenced to use the Philips brand.
According to the figures, 43% of all app usage is catch-up TV. And every minute, a rented movie starts on a Philips smart TV. At the moment, each month over 110,000 hours of content is sold.
In order to make navigating on smart TV easier, Philips has introduced remote controls with a qwerty keyboard on the back.
Philips TVs also offer the MyRemote control app for Android and iOS, which includes a web-delivered EPG for tablets. Direct channel tuning is available for TV sets with CI+ modules and unencrypted channels. At a later stage, Philips will also introduce remote control of an attached PVR.
