Some form of subscription TV service is now received by the overwhelming number of homes in Hungary, thanks in no small part to the success of the pay-DTT platform MinDig TV Extra.
Data produced by the regulator NMHH shows that as of this April there were 3,313,000 TV subscriptions, with the 11 major market players accounting for 2,942,866 of the total.
The number of cable and IPTV subscriptions, among nine major market players, was 1,932,569, of which 903,554 were digital, while the total number of DTH and MMDS subscriptions, based on the entire market of four players, was 918,449.
MinDig TV Extra meanwhile had 91,848 subscribers, though the figure has since risen to over 100,000.
UPC was the leading provider of subscription services irrespective of technology with a market share of 26.6%, as well as in the wired broadcasting sector, with 27.3%.
However, Digi retained top spot in wireless broadcasting, with a share of 34.1%.
