TalkTalk now has the fastest growing TV service in the UK, adding 150,000 subscribers in the full year to March 31 and taking the total to 230,000.
TalkTalk began offering YouView set-top boxes to its subscribers for free in September 2012 and was already gaining 12,000 TV customers a week as the full year drew to a close.
Commenting specifically on the company’s TV services and plans for the future, CEO Dido Harding said: “Our customers are predominantly mass market, value seeking families who are looking for a little bit of pay-TV, not a lot. They love the value for money YouView service with all its free and live catch-up services and are attracted by our value for money premium boosts. They only have to commit to one month at a time.
“Looking forward, we plan to launch a proposition for our Essentials customer base – a lower cost box, without a PVR that will make YouView and TalkTalk’s TV service available to our whole 4 million base of customers”.
TalkTalk has total revenues of £1,670 million (€1,971 million) in the year to March 31, compared to £1,687 million in FY12). Its headline EBITDA was £290 million (FY1; £326 million) and statutory profit before tax £122 million (FY12: £326 million).
