The Slovak national transmission company Towercom has begun trialing a fibre-optic network in Nove Mesto, a district in the capital, Bratislava.
Quoted by Zive, Michal Suran, the company’s marketing manager, revealed that negotiations over the leasing the network are currently taking place with a number of companies.
However, the operator TelecomCorp has already been using capacity on the network since the end of last year and currently offers its subscribers both digital TV and broadband internet access.
Although the pilot network can reach 14,000 homes, only around 1,300 have so far been connected.
Towercom began the year operating two national DTT multiplexes in Slovakia.
A third one was unused and a fourth was due to launch by the end of this month.
