Apps could yet prove to be an important source of revenue for providers of IPTV services, according to Ted Hsiung, CMO, Huawei.
Citing the example of China Telecom, he said that 15% of its captured TV revenue is already from apps.
All told, the company has 200 games and 50 infotainment apps, all of which are managed by a third party company.
Hsiung added that China Telecom has focused on apps to bring in new revenues for its IPTV service in the province of Zhejiang.
Its operation there and in Guangdong province is growing by up to 50,000 subscribers a month.
Its ARPU for broadband was meanwhile up by 15%, and churn reduced by over 60%.
