The study of new TV trends shows a growth in smart TV (or connected TV sales) that have increased by 211% in the two years to Q1 2012 from 115,000 to 358,000 units per quarter. Total sales figures show more than 2.9m Smart TVs have been sold in the UK since 2010.

“With the 2012 onslaught of ‘large-screen’ activities including the European Championships and the Olympics, we have seen strong continued uptake of the 3D and Smart TV features,” TV Licensing reported. “This alone accounted for 35 per cent and 44 per cent respectively of the total market value in 2012. Though the inclusion of these features as standard in most highend sets means that a number of these will be passively purchased, this does not necessarily reflect the number of consumers actually using these features.”
Displays have also become larger with the number of screens in excess of 43 inches increasing by 10% in 12 months.
