The Czech public broadcaster CT is looking into the possibility of carrying advertising on two new channels – the kids CT Decko and cultural Art – it plans to launch at the end of August.
Quoted by E15, CT’s general manager Petr Dvorak said the matter is currently being explored by its lawyers and were the channels to show commercials it would be done “very selectively”.
Under existing legislation, CT is only allowed to carry limited advertising, equivalent to 0.5% of airtime, on two of its four channels (CT2 and CT Sports).
What is more, its revenues from commercial airtime have been falling and are likely to this year amount to only CZK60 million (€2.34 million).
Although CT Decko and Art will initially share the same frequency, CT would like to see them eventually operate as full services.
