The BBC has appointed Neil McIntosh as its managing editor of Online. Wall Street Journal staffer McIntosh will provide strategic and operational leadership for BBC Online and the Red Button.
His responsibilities take in BBC content across desktop, mobile, tablet and connected TV, where he will hold editorial oversight.
“More and more people turn online for their news, information and entertainment, there’s a huge opportunity to build on what BBC Online offers across four screens,” said McIntosh, who reports to Andy Conroy, chief operating officer for Future Media and BBC Online.
BBC Online comprises ten products: BBC News, Sport, Weather, CBeebies, CBBC, BBC iPlayer, iPlayer Radio, Knowledge and Learning, Search and the BBC Homepage.
McIntosh replaces Ian Hunter, who left the BBC last year.
