Canalsat and TNTSAT are refusing to carry the two new French DTT channels HD1 and 6ter in a dispute over carriage fees.
According to French reports, the two broadcasters HD1 (part of TF1) and 6ter (part of M6) refuse to pay the Canal+ group a carriage fee of EUR 700,000.00 to distribute the two new terrestrial HD channels on the Canalsat and TNTSAT platforms.
The two platforms offer all digital terrestrial channels as a free service to their viewers on the Astra position at 19.2 degrees East.
TF1 and M6 are of the opinion that they don’t have to pay a carriage fee, as the free-to-view DTH platform is a public service. There seems to be no legal obligation for Canal to add the two HD channels. Eutelsat’s Fransat service, however, does carry both HD1 and 6ter.
The Canal platforms do carry the other new HD channels, Numéro 23, L’Equipe 21, Chérie 25, and RMC Découverte HD, who apparently agreed to pay the carriage fee.
