Abertis stages DTT transmission of UHDTV

Abertis Telecom playoutAbertis Telecom is to run a test of Ultra High Definition DTT (UHDTV) at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona next week (February 25 to 28).

The Spanish company plans to show the DVB-T2 DTT standard with simulcasts suitable for Ultra High Definition (UHDTV) and mobility devices.

It is working with the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), SAPEC, the Polytechnic University of Madrid, La Salle, Sony and producer Lapospo.

Although billed as a ‘world first’ the Korean KBS Kwanak Transmitter is currently sending DVB-T2 at 100W in 6MHz with HEVC 4k UHDTV

The Barcelona transmissions will be viewed on a monitor of 84 inches that will test the image quality offered by this system, four times over the current High Definition (HD).
