TalkTalk says its YouView powered TV service reached 80,000 customers as of December 31, 2012 and the company is running installations at the rate of 10,000 per week.
“We have returned our total customer base to growth for the first time in three years – an important milestone on our journey to become a growing and more profitable business. We successfully launched TV and mobile handsets this summer and the growth in take-up by both existing and new customers underlines the scale of opportunity we see in these additional products,” said chief executive Dido Harding.
The telco said 30% of the TV subscribers were new to the company with the balance being upsold from its existing Essentials and Plus packages.
TalkTalk’s 80,000 YouView customers come in addition to the 60,000 recently announced by BT.
The figures would put YouView in an unofficial 200,000 homes, not including any retail sales, though these are thought to have been sluggish.
