Report: Apple TV to offer HBO App

new-apple-tvThe HBO Go multiscreen service could find its way onto Apple TV later this year.

Bloomberg reports that the HBO Go app will be included on the Apple TV device, allowing subscribers to view HBO content, providing they already subscribe through a cable and satellite providers.

Apple already runs apps for Netflix, Hulu Plus and YouTube.

Bloomberg says HBO Go will be released as an application sometime in the first half of 2013, citing two people familiar with the plans.

Apple sold more than 2 million Apple TV boxes in the quarter to December – it has sold 7.8 million over the past two years – amid signs that competition from the likes of Roku might move Apple’s self-confessed hobby into the mainstream.

Speculation that Apple might launch a full blown TV continues to circulate, though still seems far fetched.
