UPC cablecom has begun to offer unencrypted local channels in its basic package.
The move follows the abolition of basic encryption in mid November and is the operator’s next step to digitisation.
It affects a total of 12 channels, eight of which are in German-speaking Switzerland, and as a result customers can receive a total of 55 unencrypted digital TV channels directly from any cable socket and without an additional set-top box.
Previously, legal restrictions meant that the local channels in each area of coverage could only be received in the basic analogue package and encrypted form digitally via set-top boxes or the DigiCard.
