Russia plans to introduce HbbTV services in the first quarter of next year, according to Viktor Pinchuk, deputy head of the Russian Television and Broadcasting Network (RTRS).
Quoted by AKTR and Tass Telekom, he added that it had undertaken a test run and is at the final stage of selecting technological solutions, with the latter likely to be completed by the end of the year.
Pinchuk also said that RTRS is actively working with broadcasters and is ready to provide them with technological assistance and be the centre of a HbbTV platform.
HbbTV is gradually gaining a foothold in Central and Eastern Europe, with the most activity to date having taken place in Poland and the Czech Republic.
