Viewers in Belarus should be able to receive 36 commercial DTT channels by the second quarter of next year.
The news was given by Viktor Kvasoverts, the head of the technical department at the country’s TV Transmission Centre, quoted by AKTR and Naviny.
He added that the commercial offer would consist of two packages, each with 18 channels.
They would be made available in addition to a public service package of seven channels.
Kvasoverts also said that digital broadcasting already covers 95.5% of Belarus and public awareness of digital TV services is high.
The Ministry of Communications and Information has meanwhile indicated that technical transmission/reception tests for the commercial channels are currently being undertaken and they could in fact be launched before Q2 2013.
