Belgian cable operator Telenet is ceasing the In-Di digital TV service it inherited from the takeover of the Interkabel cable networks. Customers will be offered the regular digital TV product from Telenet.
In the period from November 26 and December 3 Telenet will gradually close down the digital TV delivery of the In-Di service. On October 1, 2008, Telenet acquired the TV services from the Interkabel networks. At the time, Interkabel offered its customers its own digital TV service called In-Di, which is not compatible with Telenet’s own digital TV service.
In July 2009 Telenet already replaced all rental In-Di cable tuners with their own set-top box; now the operator will inform the subscribers who still own an In-Di decorder that the service will terminate. 40,664 customers are still using the service.
Telenet cites the fact that the technology partners who developed the service, which launched in 2004, no longer support the platform. The operator will make an offer for existing In-Di customers to get a Telenet HD Digibox or HD Digicorder (PVR) for the regular digital TV service from Telenet.
The Interkabel networks are three community owned networks, Integan, PBE and Infrax, serving the city of Antwerp, as well as municipalities in the provinces of Brabant and Limburg.
