Copyright clampdown in Ukraine

The observance of copyright for sports programming has been significantly tightened in Ukraine.

According to Kommersant, this follows the actions of Media Group Ukraine (MSU) and the commercial broadcaster 1+1 and has resulted in the disappearance of Champions League, Europa League and the Ukrainian Premier League, along with various reviews, from popular sports sites.

Instead, they have agreed to use the video play oll.tv, which is owned by MSU, to show games.

Rights to the games are held 50/50 by MSU and 1+1, with the annual contract with UEFA believed to be worth between $8-10 million (€6.2-7.6 million) and to generate income of around $4 million.
