Online TV audiences continue to climb

BARB’s bi-annual study into television behaviour via non-TV devices has shown 37% of the UK TV audience has watched TV content via a PC, laptop or tablet device.

The latest results, from June 2012, show over 16% of adults had watched content over the internet during the week prior to being questioned. Among younger audiences, aged 15 to 34, the percentage is greater at 27%.

In terms of overall viewing, the average adult watched around 23 minutes of television content via the personal internet devices in the June survey period.

The figures have shown steady progress over the last two years.

Barb, which produces the UK’s TV audience figures, is currently in the process of rolling out its Web TV meter that will measure IP connected services.
