Canal+ wins, refuses football rights

Canal + Cyfrowy, the operator of the Polish DTH platform Cyfra+, has secured the rights to the French premier football league (Ligue1) for the next three seasons.

As part of the deal, it now also has the rights to the second league (Ligue2) and French Cup competition.

This comes at the same time as Canal + Cyfrowy has refused to renew its contract with Serie A, citing disappointing viewing figures and excessive financial demands.

Meanwhile Canal+ subscribers in Poland will be offered the opportunity to watch every game from the Polish premier league (T-Mobile Ekstraklasa) this coming season, which kicks off on August 17.
