Content costs fall at MEO

Portugal Telecom’s MEO service has now achieved critical mass, according to the IPTV operator, bringing with it lower programming costs.

PT said the cost of content had fallen by 19% in the first six months of the year, operating costs having fallen by 4.7% as a whole.

MEO delivered a solid performance, increasing subscriber levels by 25.8% to 1,1757,000, 46,000 coming in the last quarter.

PT’s triple-play customers (voice, broadband and pay-TV) grew by 31% year-on-year and added 38,000 on the quarter to reach 766,000.

Meo has recently added its Sapo Voucher app, the first interactive TV app allowing financial transactions and TV advertisement interaction. Meo also launched Twitter on TV, which can be accessed through the “blue button” on the Meo Remote Control, allowing Meo customers to tweet while watching TV shows.
