Daniel Danker, the BBC’s general manager of the iPlayer, has told Broadband TV News that the creators of some connected TV experiences have forgotten the reasons why people purchase them in the first place.
“If the user interfaces go back to basics we will see better experiences out there,” Danker said in a video interview.
According to Danker the degree of prominence enjoyed by the broadcasters should continue in the connected TV environment. “Without some degree of prominence and guarantee of that prominence it will be too easy for commercially minded content providers to leap to the front at the expense of the kind of experience that meets the expectations of culturally minded public service broadcasters.”
