Authority does not plan a break-up of Canal Plus

There will be no break-up of Canal+ and the Studio Canal operations, according to a report in La Tribune.

Bruno Lasserre, president of the competition authority (l’Autorité de la concurrence), told the newspaper there will be no break-up of Canal+, the CanalSat platform or the Studio Canal production company.

However, the authority will impose sanctions on the Canal group because of serious mistakes made when acquiring the TPS premium channels.

The authority held a special hearing on June 11, when a number of other parties from the French broadcasting spectrum were heard, including TF1, Orange, BeIn Sport and the French football league. According to people present at the hearing, none of the parties asked for a break-up of the Canal group.
