Football pushes Dutch smart TV sales

Sales of TV sets in the Netherlands have jumped between 10%-15% in the run-up to the FIFA Euro 2012 championship, according to the association of consumer electronics retailers UNETO-VNI.

According to the organisation there is a huge demand for connected or smart TVs. 3D enabled sets are also popular.

“Consumers want to enjoy the upcoming European Championships. With a smart or internet connected TV it is easy to catch up on a missed game or look at after-game analysis,” said Maurice Estourgie of UNETO-VNI.

“Consumer confidence is still low and large purchases are being postponed. Fortunately, it appears that the European Championship football still attracts consumers to buy a new TV set.”

Earlier, retail research organisation GfK said that sales of TV sets were comparable to those in the run-up to the FIFA 2010 football world championship.
