Fastweb puts IPTV service out of its misery

Fastweb is planning to drop its IPTV service from November, according to a report in the Italian daily, Il Sole 24 Ore.

Subscribers to the six-year old service have begun to receive letters informing them of the plans.

In recent months a number of measures have been taken to shore up the 150,000 subscribers to the service. This includes a joint marketing deal with Sky Italia that was reported to have added 71,000 customers in its first year of operation, including 34,000 in the fourth quarter.

However, Fastweb’s net revenue fell by 7.1% or €134 million to €1,746 million year-on-year. This despite the reduction of offers including satellite set-tops. Price pressures also forced a 10% decline in customer revenues.
