In Brief: UPC, BeIn Sport, TPB

UPC Nederland has acquired the Regionet cable network in the town of Huissen with around 8,000 connected homes. During the next few weeks, UPC will roll out its products on the network including 120 Mbps broadband. The Regiokabel shop will be turned into a UPC shop and all employees will join the UPC workforce.

The French Al Jazeera sports channels BeIn Sport 1 and 2 will be distributed on all platforms in the country (SFR, Bouygues Telecom, Orange, Numericable, Free) with the exception of CanalSat. A deal might be imminent, but the newcomers have hurt Canal+ by breaking their live football monopoly.

Dutch ISPs UPC and KPN have appealed against the court decision they must block access to The Pirate Bay. A judge ordered most Dutch ISPs to block access to the site and last Friday, May 25 also ordered to block a new url with which TPB could be reached.
