Smart TVs becoming the standard in Germany

Nearly half of all the new TV sets sold in Germany are connected sets, according to high tech association Bitkom. Already one in six homes owns a connected TV.

According to Bitkom, in 2011 the percentage of hybrid TVs was only 35% among new sets sold, now rising to around 50% for this year.

At the moment 17% of the total TV universe in German homes is a smart TV, this figure ois expected to rise top 22% by the end of the year,

Of the people who have their TV set connected to the net, around 30% use the feature at least once a month.

“The internet is destined to be part of the standard equipment of modern flat-screen TVs,” said Bitkom expert Michael Schidlack.
