Telefonica TV reaches one million in Europe

Telefonica is now serving one million customers in Europe, principally in Spain and the Czech Republic, through its IPTV services.

The news acted as a minor fillip to the telco, which saw first quarter profits half after the value of its stake in Telecom Italia fell after a capital increase and prices in Spain were reduced amid the continuing recession.

In the Czech Republic, pay-TV customers increased 7% to 138,000 at the end of March 2012.

In Spain, pay-TV connections stood at 813,000 at the end of March, an increase of 3% year-on-year, but down from the 833,000 reported at the close of 2011.
