Dutch incumbent telecom provider KPN has said it added 84,000 new customers to its IPTV service during Q4 last year.
The total number of TV customers stood at 1.4 million at the end of December, 2011. Market share of the company then stood at 17% versus 15% at the end of December 2010.
The operator said the number of subscribers to its digital terrestrial Digitenne TV platform is down to around 827,000. The net loss of DVB-T homes was 26,000 during Q4.
Last year, KPN improved its TV services with the possibility to stream channels directly to iPads and laptops. The operator also introduced network-PVR.
TV income is becoming increasingly important for the company as income from traditional telephony continues to slide. “Wireline revenues benefited from the strong growth in IPTV, but continued to show declining voice revenues in combination with pressure on broadband market share,” it said in a press statement.
“The wireline innovation roadmap is on track, a 500 Mbps up- and download speed FttH product and a new IPTV user interface was launched. Growth of IPTV continued with an increased number of net adds (84k in Q4 2011 compared to 73k in Q3 2011). This good progress is also reflected in a further increased TV market share, reaching 17% compared to 15% in Q4 2010. The TV ARPU increased by 20% y-on-y to €12 in Q4.”
