KPN launches live TV on Android tablets

Dutch incumbent KPN has launched a live TV app for Android tablets offering a total of 20 live streaming channels. Live TV for iPhones and Android smart phones is due for release early next year.

Last August, KPN was the first platform in the Netherlands to launch streaming live TV on the iPad. Ziggo followed earlier this month with a limited offer of ten live channels.

KPN’s line-up of 20 live channels consists of Nederland 1, 2 and 3, RTL 4, RTL 5, SBS 6, RTL 7. Net 5, Veronica/Disney XD, RTL 8, National Geographic, Humor TV 24, NOS Journaal 24, 13th Street Universal, CNN, BBC World News, TV5, SlamTV and kids channels JimJam and Studio 100 TV (the last two only available to subscribers to the Kids Pack).

The Android app also includes a catch-up TV functionality providing access to the services Uitzending Gemist) from the public broadcasters) and RTL Gemist. The live channels come free of charge, but an additional fee of €5 is payable for the catch-up TV service.

Early next year, KPN will also make the live streaming channels available to both iOS and Android smart phones.
