Ziggo makes zapper boxes interactive

Holland’s largest cable operator Ziggo has started to make some of its set top boxes interactive.

The operator has a firmware update for two Humax PVR models, the Humax iRHD-5100C and iHDR-5200C, which will give viewers access to all on-demand and interactive services from the cabler.

Both models have an Ethernet connection, which needs to be connected to an internet router, either wired or with a wi-fi connection. Humax has made special Humax Wifi-USB dongles available at €35.

Ziggo’s interactive services include their VOD portal, catch-up TV from Uitzending Gemist, RTL and SBS and others and web services such as weather forecasts in Buienrader.nl and news from Nu.nl.

Ziggo customers have to buy their set tops in retail, but the operator sometimes gives a subsidy on the purchase price.
