Irdeto has officially launched its cloud-based TV services platform, previewed at IBC 2011, and including reference applications for tablets, smartphones and other iOS and Android devices. Also being launched is a next generation content management system, the Irdeto MediaManager.
The Irdeto TV Services platform delivers content across multiple devices as well as enabling social media engagement through channels such as Facebook and Twitter, allowing consumers to share comments and recommendations that are synchronized to their viewing experience in real time.
Search and recommendation is being powered by Aprico Solutions to provide a personalized discovery experience. As part of the suite of reference applications, backed by application and design partners including Accedo Broadband, DotScreen, Service2Media and Ex Machina, consumers can play along with their favourite shows and participate in real time interactive polling, gaming and voting.
Doug Lowther, EVP, digital TV, Irdeto said: “In a competitive broadcast market, operators must be able to deploy a multi-screen strategy to engage customers, create loyalty and ensure their future survival. By partnering with innovators in the social TV, app development and design space Irdeto is able to help operators rapidly bring to market interactive, personal and social experiences and deliver content to a range of Android devices, connected TVs, iPad and smart phones.”
Broadband TV Views: It goes without saying that TV services, including the ability to span multiple devices and the addition of social media, is emerging as a key battleground for Europe’s technology providers. Overlapping products are in the marketplace from NDS and Viaccess, but also Pace and Red Bee Media.
