The Polish National Broadcasting Council (KRRiT) is considering giving up to 20 channels distributed by DTT must-carry status on the country’s DTH platforms and cable networks.
According to Rzeczpospolita, such a move would particularly help increase the reach of new DTT channels, which are likely to each cost around PLN20 million (€5.03 million) to operate in their first year.
However, it is widely opposed by both the DTH and cable sectors.
Poland’s first three multiplexes, two of which are already up and running and the third due to launch shortly, are expected to carry a total of around 20 channels.
