WATCH VIDEO. YouTube has started adding premium movies for rental to its US viewers. The video website will add a total of 3,000 new titles with rental prices starting at $2.99 (€2.00).
Available titles include Inception, The King’s Speech, Little Fockers, The Green Hornet and Despicable Me, in addition to older titles such as Harry Potter titles, Goodfellas, Caddyshack, Scarface, and Taxi Driver from studios including Sony Pictures Entertainment, Warner Brothers and NBC Universal.
In its blog, YouTube says it will add reviews and behind-the-scenes movie extras. “Discover a universe of related remixes, clips, and behind the scenes footage with YouTube Movie Extras.” YouTube has been offering premium movies since last year’s Sundance Film Festival, but this is the first time that the site will offer titles from major US studios.
For the moment, YouTube will not bring any premium offer to viewers outside the US. However, a large library of free movies remains available to viewers across the world on the special movie section of YouTube. There are over four hundred free, public domain or Creative Commons films available for streaming in most territories.
