UPC remains by far the largest cable operator in Hungary, claiming a 32.4% share of the wired (cable and IPTV) broadcasting market among the 10 leading service providers in January, according to data published by the National Media and Infocommunications Authority (NMHH).
Second placed T-Home, which is operated by Magyar Telekom, claimed second place with 22.8%, followed by Digi (16.9%), FiberNet (6/9%) and Tarr (5.9%).
UPC was also the leading operator (based on data from the top 12 service providers) regardless of technology with a 29% share, followed by Digi (26.1%), T-Home (25%) and FiberNet (4.6%).
However, in the DTH sector, which also includes MMDS, its UPC Direct platform was a distant third (22.1%) behind Digi (45%)and T-Home (29.3%).
As of the end of January there were a total of 1,449,795 digital TV subscriptions.
DTH and the MMDS service Hello Digital accounted for 878,957 of the total and – among the 10 leading market players – cable and IPTV the remaining 570,828.
