The National Television and Radio Broadcasting Council of Ukraine has declared its intention to develop IPTV services in the country.
AKTR and Monitoring SMI report that in a special seminar on the experience of IPTV in Europe and its application in Ukraine, the Council’s chairman Volodymyr Manzhosov said that interest in IPTV is growing in the country, thanks largely to the attractive content it offers.
The State Register of TV and Radio already lists 23 companies licensed as software providers using IPTV technology.
He added that Council “is studying the situation with the licensing of IPTV and will be ready in the near future to review all applications for IPTV.”
IPTV is still in its infancy in Ukraine compared to cable and indeed DTH, with services offered by (amongst others) Comstar-UTS and the incumbent telco Ukrtelecom.
