The Russian cable operator ER-Telecom has announced that all its subscribers will be offered HD channels by the end of this year or in early 2012. It has also said that digital subscribers in the cities of Perm and Samara can now receive such channels.
Prior to this month, only those living in the city of Tyumen were able to do so.
Commenting on the latest development, ER-Telecom’s deputy commercial director Mikhail Vorobyov said HDTV viewing in Russia is seriously lagging behind that in the US, Japan, China and the UK, with reception at below 1%.
The cableco currently offers its subscribers a package of 10 HD channels for no additional charge.
