The daily number of German teletext users increased in 2010 to 16.21 million, up from 15.76 million, according to researh by public broadcaster ARD. In 2009. The average time spent with text has also increased: in 2009 the daily average was six minutes and 17 seconds , in 2010 six minutes and 54 seconds.
There is no clear reason why teletext usage is increasing, but one explanation could be the fact that the average TV viewing time is also on the rise: with 223 minutes a day this is the highest figure ever for German TV households. In 2009 the average was 212 minutes.
Accordiong to ARD-Medienforschung, the best watched pages are sports including live ticker sports results and the news pages.
ARD text is the most popular text service with 5.42 million people tuning in (2009: 5.40 million). RTL is runner up with 5.37 million (5.81 million), Sat.1 comes third with 4.87 million (5.15 million); ZDF counted 4.81 million readerss (4.93 million), followed by ProSieben with 4.38 million (5, 11 million) and 0.61 million for news channel n-tv (0.75 million).
