Skype has confirmed it is working with Sony and Vizio to put the online calling application direct into the living room. It follows the debut of Skype-enabled TVs at CES in 2011 and earlier implementations on Panasonic and Samsung that can already be purchased at retail.
A Skype-enabled Panasonic or Sony Blu-ray player and webcam is being made available to allow video conversations from the comfort of your armchair.
Again operators that offer telephony services – and that is most of them – are presented with a dilemma. Skype may become an essential offering as part of a whole home package, but its introduction risks eroding call revenues.
