New Russian science channel

The Russian state owned broadcaster VGTRK (RTR) has announced plans to add to its thematic channel portfolio.

Quoted by AKTR and NIA-Tomsk, its deputy general director Dmitry Mednikov said that a new channel, tentatively named Science 2.0 and dedicated to science, nanotechnology and innovation, is almost ready for launch.

A decision on the launch date – expected to be in February/March 2011 – is likely to be made by the end of this year.

Science 2.0 will be distributed via cable and satellite and have an annual budget of around $10 million (€7.63 million).
