German public broadcaster ARD is launching an App for its daily news show, Tagesschau, which gives access to both live streams and on demand news.
Available free of charge, the new Tagesschau App gives users of Apple iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch as well as Android and Blackberry devices 24 hours-a-day access to the latest news from ARD.
From 09.00 to 20.15 CET, the new App gives access to the live stream of ARD Tagesschau from the EinsExtra digital channel. Current affairs programmes such as Tagesthemen, Nachtmagazin and Wochenspiegel are also available, as is a constantly updated Tagesschau in 100 Sekunden, a brief summary of the news.
The on demand service also gives access to the latest complete edition of the news bulletin. Users will also be able to see the latest weather forecasts and listen to ARD radio programmes.
The Tagesschau App is available free of charge, as is the use of the programme. However, the broadcaster said that this does not mean that new applications will continue to be free.
