Telecom Italia has launched a hybrid set-top box, called Cubovision, combining digital terrestrial television with broadband access.
The Intel Aton CE4150 chip sits at the heart of this new set-top, which gives the viewers access to all Italian DTT channels, including the various premium channels.
Via broadband, customers can access the Cubovision portal from Telecom Italia, which offers 1,500 hours of regularly-updated programming spanning over 200 TV series, cartoons, documentaries, concerts and movies. The box also brings “the best of WebTV”, including Telecom Italia’s La7.tv, directly to home TV screens.
The world of Cubovision is also accessible from the latest generation of connected Samsung Smart TVs by tuning in to Digital Terrestrial Channel 999 using one of the new “DGTVi Gold” decoders, or by simply connecting via a PC to the website.
Telecom Italia will soon make a Cubovision App available for download from the Apple and Samsung Application Stores, which will allow tablets and smartphones to connect to the multimedia platform using the open source MeeGo software platform.
Cubovision has a recommended retail price of €199 or it can be rented for €5.50 per month.
